Included in the entry for Laindon: "Laindon population 311, containing Basildon chapelry 125. A school, in which 15 children are taught gratis, and about 20 pay a small sum for their education. The master has £10 per annum arising from a farm in the parish, left for that purpose. A Sunday school in which from 20 to 30 children are taught. Many of the poor are without sufficient means of education, and are desirous of possessing sessing them.""
