PRIORS. 10     1881 map of area
Built in the 17th century with later alterations, it was part of the Great Myles's Estate. During the 19th century the land was owned by Colonel John Fane of Barnes. Priors consisted of 31 acres with the farm buildings situated on the opposite side of Ongar Road. From 1851, it was occupied by the Rev. Frederick Fane, Vicar of Norton Mandeville. The Rev. Fane was a local character. He was a typical Mid-Victorian country clergyman: involved in many local philanthropic and community associations, and was a great benefactor to the parish of Kelvedon Hatch.
