The history of the Stonebridge Park area

This article was posted in Essex History.

The history of the area known as Stonebridge Park which covers the areas of the parishes of Great Wakering, Little Wakering, Sutton, Shopland, Barling, North and South Shoebury, is the subject of a recently published report.

These parishes are to be found in the south-east corner of Essex, near Southend.

The report: Stonebridge: An Initial Assessment of its Historic Landscape Character by Professor Stephen Rippon of the Archaeology Department, University of Exeter, with the assistance of Essex County Council for Southend Borough Council, is a detailed examination of the origins and development of the area’s ‘historic landscape’ (i.e. the present-day pattern of fields, roads and settlements).

If you are interested in landcsape history then it is a very interesting read. The report in pdf format is available here: Stonebridge: An Initial Assessment of its Historic Landscape Character
