News on useful information to help you research your Essex ancestors

Scottish and Irish ancestors?

Irish Parish Records

If you find that your once Essex ancestors now have Scottish and Irish ancestry then the following new resources may help.

Ancestry.co.uk have now published the Irish Catholic Parish Records which cover from 1742 to 1884, and have extended the Irish Birth, Marriage and Death Indexes on their site by a further 40 million records.

The 433,560 new Catholic parish records consist of births, marriages and deaths. Before now, researching these events before 1864 was very difficult so this is good news for all researchers with Irish ancestry.

On Find My Past you can now search transcriptions of the Scottish census years of 1841 and 1851. Because of licensing problems you can only view the transcriptions, not the the original census images. More transcriptions of later years to come in the following months.
