A new website has just started which looks at the experiences of the thousands of British child migrants who were sent to Canada, Australia and many other Commonwealth countries to start a new life.
Covering the period between 1860 and 1760, On Their Own: Britain’s Child Migrants is a joint venture between the Australian National Maritime Museum and National Museums Liverpool, Liverpool.
The website includes photographs, archive letters and records, research guides, and personal oral history accounts of some of the people who were the child migrants. There is a forum on the website where you contribute your own story if your were one of these orphan migrants.
The real-world part of the exhibition will be touring Australia during 2011. More information on the website.
