my ancestors logo

Are your ancestors from this location? Why not tell us their story. When were they here? Who were they? What they did they do? Where did they go? Have you an interesting story to tell about them?
About 300 words maximum please.

Your story will be published here for everyone to read.

If you have an image that you wish to include in your story, then after you have typed out and submitted your story, send the image by email to: webmaster at historyhouse.co.uk and we shall attach it to your story.

In case something goes wrong when uploading your story, it may be safer to type it out on a word document or notepad, save it, and then cut and paste the text into the box below. After you click Submit, the text should immediately appear, unless our Spam checker has referred it for us to check it first.

Please, please, do not use My Ancestors for appeals for information or to request look-ups on census sites as we cannot deal with them under this format. We recommend that you try one of these forums.

Back to History of Great Chishill

  1. Mrs Susan Harrington

My 2 x Grt.Grandfather was born in 1829 & lived in Gt. Chishill. His occupation was a Bricklayer/Journeyman and his address in 1851 was 34 High St., Gt. Chishill, & Pudgel Lane at his death in 1905. He married Elizabeth Godfrey from Barkway & they had 7 children, one of whom was my Gt.Grandmother, Constance Alice. Their youngest child, Lillian was assistance school mistress at the little school opposite the church, which I believe now is a private residence, she also lived all her life in Gt. Chishill, and I spent many happy holidays staying with her as a child.
