An event which many family history enthusiasts have been waiting for has now arrived, the 1911 census is now available online, or at least 80% of it. The remaining records will be available soon.
The census is being supplied by The National Archives in association with findmypast.com.
If you register on the Find my Past website you can use the username, and any credits you purchase, on both findmypast.com and 1911 census website.
The 1911 census was the most detailed census since they involved collecting names in 1841. The 1911 census contains 36 million names and the original householders’ schedules have been preserved which means that one can view your ancestors’ own handwriting if they completed the form.
The census will provide many researchers a chance to fill in any missing gaps in their family history, for others it may provide some startling surprises or open up new avenues of exploration.
